It started with a vision. After experiencing first hand the inefficiencies in mainstream oil & gas operations, we decided that there had to be a better and more cost-effective way to increase recovery factors without drilling new wells. In the United States alone, many hundreds of thousands of wells have been plugged and abandoned while vast quantities of hydrocarbons remain stranded in the reservoirs in which those wells were drilled.
What is preventing operators from extracting the more than 50% of the oil that was originally in place. Reservoir depletion or lack of energy is the primary factor. Once reservoir pressure falls due to reservoir drive loss, there is no energy or pressure differential left to move hydrocarbons from the rock matrix where it is stranded to the wellbore where it can be lifted. This problem is exacerbated by near wellbore plugging caused by paraffin, ashphaltene and scale deposition which further restricts flow. In many cases, inefficient and repeated remediation treatments are required in order to preserve just 1/4bbl/day flowrates. Expensive infill drilling or horizontal wells may be able to tap non-depleted pore space, but is it economic? If we can inexpensively build skin free, reservoir drainage off of existing vertical wells, then follow with a method to replenish some of the lost reservoir energy without a full field pressure maintenance program, we can keep those old wells producing at economic rates and increase recovery factors.
